TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem Description Solution
Engine won’t start No response or cranking when trying to start. Check battery charge, starter relay, kill switch, and ignition connections.
Hard starting Engine turns but takes multiple tries to start. Clean carburetor, check choke operation, replace spark plug if fouled.
Engine starts then dies Starts briefly but stalls right away. Inspect fuel flow, clean carb, check vacuum lines, adjust idle screw.
Rough idle Inconsistent or sputtering idle. Clean or rebuild carburetor, adjust idle speed and mixture screws.
Engine misfires Popping or missing while running. Check spark plug gap, CDI unit, and ignition coil.
No spark Engine cranks but spark plug has no spark. Test CDI, ignition coil, stator, and wiring. Replace faulty components.
Weak acceleration Sluggish power when throttle is opened. Clean air filter, check carb jetting, and inspect throttle cable.
Backfiring Loud pop from exhaust during deceleration or throttle blip. Check exhaust leaks, carb tuning, and valve clearance.
Excessive smoke from exhaust White, blue, or black smoke from exhaust. White: coolant leak. Blue: burning oil. Black: rich fuel mix.
Overheating Engine gets too hot, possible power loss. Check coolant level, radiator fan, and clean fins. Replace thermostat.
Clutch slipping Engine revs but ATV doesn’t accelerate properly. Adjust clutch cable or replace worn clutch plates.
Transmission won’t shift properly Gears won’t engage smoothly or grind. Check shift linkage, oil condition, and clutch adjustment.
Chain noise or wear Excessive rattling or visible chain stretch. Lubricate, tension, or replace chain and sprockets.
Brake fade or weak braking Brakes feel soft or don’t stop effectively. Bleed brake lines, replace pads, inspect master cylinder.
Electrical issues (lights, etc.) Lights or horn not working. Inspect fuses, wiring, ground connections, and switchgear.
Battery not charging Battery drains even while running. Test stator, regulator/rectifier, and battery condition.
Fuel leaking Fuel visible leaking or strong gas smell. Inspect fuel lines, petcock, carburetor bowl gasket, and tighten clamps.
Poor fuel economy Excessive fuel consumption. Check for leaking carb, rich air-fuel mix, and clean air filter.
Suspension squeaks or bounces Noisy or ineffective shock absorption. Lubricate pivot points, check shocks, and replace worn bushings.
ATV pulls to one side Veers off while riding straight. Check tire pressure, alignment, and suspension arms for damage.
